The Citizens United ruling should be a loud call for all Citizens to....unite as Union Members!
Unfortunately, while Democratic and Republican citizens use their right of speech to continue to blame and fight each other, the corporate and financial elite laugh all the way to the bank with ours and our children’s money, not to mention their very future. What must be realized (and better be soon) is that the corporate and financial lobbyists threw huge amounts of money at the republicans (for the most part) while they were in power…and now they are throwing huge amounts of money at the democrats (for the most part) while they are in power. We think that by getting rid of the ‘bad’ politicians we will win. Throw out one politician, they buy two more. Throw out five, they buy ten. We are unknowingly playing whack-a-mole WITH EACH OTHER. By blaming each other we unknowingly fatally weaken our own efforts. Until we all dismiss the ‘perceived’ enemy and recognize the real enemy the lobbyists and their ilk will keep us divided. If you are only blaming and fighting Democrats or Republicans…..you may want to rethink that strategy. Many will say “how is this possible when the Republicans did this or the Democrats did that?” Another realization must occur. Almost all of the divisive (Democratic/Republican) issues have been framed for us in ways which lead us to ask the wrong questions and fight the wrong battles with the wrong people. The way they frame these issues keeps us divided......in ways which render the law of the land (One man, one vote) useless. The corporate and financial elite have been playing both ends against the middle (class) for far too long. What to do about it? The best thing to do right now is educate the Democratic and Republican citizens and bring them together ……and then stomp the lobbyists out of existence. It will happen because the citizens are becoming aware that the corporate shills have been hiding right before our eyes. History repeats itself. Newt Gingrich was doing his best Marie Antoinette when he said this about the Citizens united ruling “This will, in fact, level the playing field and allow middle-class candidates to begin to have an opportunity to raise the resources to take on the powerful and the rich.” Yup, let them eat cake. Last item. Unions are the best way to join people together. It worked 75 year ago, it will work now. That is why the lobbyists are working so hard against the Employee Free Choice Act.....
